Chambers: Govt must reduce levies on local businesses

The employers' rebate for redundancies was slashed by 75% in today's Budget cuts and Chambers Ireland have said this could lead to further lay-offs.

Deputy Chief Executive Sean Murphy has outlined a number of things they would like the Government to leave alone tomorrow.

Mr Murphy said: "The first one is the 12.5% Corporation Tax rate.

"In terms of cost savings in the local authority area, they should be left within local authorites to help struggling businesses, specifically domestically focussed businesses.

"In terms of reducing rates pressure and local government charges on businesses, our concern would be that any savings made would be clawed back to the centre."
