Coillte wins NI plants contract

Coillte Nurseries, part of the Coillte Enterprise division of the Coillte Group, has won a major contract for the supply, delivery and offloading of 10 million forest plants to the Northern Ireland Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Forest Service.

The contract starts in January 2012 and run until the end of 2016.

Around two million plants will be supplied annually by Coillte to the Northern Ireland Forest Service over the course of this five-year deal.

The contract builds on the existing business between Coillte and the Northern Ireland Forest Service to which Coillte Nurseries has supplied in excess of 5.6 million forest plants over the past three years.

The supply will come from Coillte’s Killygordon Nursery in Donegal.

Sitka Spruce will make up the vast majority of the plant requirements but there will also be a requirement for Broadleaf, Pine and other Conifer stocks within the contract.

Eamonn Kenny, Head of Coillte Nurseries said: "We have supplied the re-planting requirements for the Forest Service in Northern Ireland for the past three years and were keen to continue and deepen this relationship. We feel the awarding of this tender recognises the high customer focus and quality control systems we have in place for which all Nurseries staff must be complimented."
