Chambers: Govt must keep VAT steady in the Budget

Chambers Ireland has said there is no case for increasing VAT in Budget 2012.

Figures released by the CSO today show that the volume of retail sales declined by 0.8% last month when compared with August.

The numbers are down almost 4% on the same time last year.

Chambers Ireland has said the results show that consumer spending here is still weak and the "Goverment must move to reassure the public that VAT will not increase in the Budget, ahead of Christmas".
