Link farm payments to eco-policies, EC proposes

EU Agricultural Commissioner Dacian Cioclos has said the Single Farm Payment which is payable to farmers should be partly linked to environmental farming.

The next Common Agricultural Policy will operate from 2014. There are likely to be considerable negotiations before the final policy is agreed.

Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness said the proposals show how much Europe is attempting to micro manage farms.
