Google buys restaurant review site Zagat

Google says it has bought the restaurant review service Zagat.

It comes as the internet search leader is trying to help people connect with local businesses – and sell ads to local merchants in the process. In a blog post, Google said Zagat “will be a cornerstone of our local offering”.

Zagat offers reviews and ratings on restaurants around the world, based largely on surveys of diners.

The founders, Nina and Tim Zagat, say they will remain a part of the company and will use Google’s resources and expertise to expand.

Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.
