Car production in Japan has plunged 60.1% in April from the previous year after the March earthquake and tsunami destroyed key parts suppliers in north eastern Japan.

The Japan Car Manufacturers Association reported today that production last month stood at 292,001 vehicles, marking a dramatic drop from 731,829 vehicles the same month a year earlier.
