Brown 'not pitching' for IMF job
Former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown says he is not seeking to replace former International Monetary Fund head Dominique Strauss-Kahn who has resigned amid sexual abuse charges.
He thanked Strauss-Kahn for the work he did, saying he played “a very singular, important part” in the IMF’s response to the global financial crisis.
Mr Brown, who was Chancellor for 10 years and has long experience in dealing with the IMF, said during a visit to Johannesburg, South Africa, that he was “not making a pitch for a job”.
Strauss-Kahn is accused of attacking a 32-year-old housekeeper in his hotel suite. He resigned on Wednesday, saying he needed to focus on clearing his name.
