Harkin: Euro is a 'straitjacket'

Independent MEP, Marian Harkin, has branded the euro currency as "a straitjacket".

Ms Harkin said: "It is inherently fragile and not strong enough to withstand the economic turmoil eurozone countries such as Ireland are experiencing right now."

She said the survival of the euro will depend on countries like Germany and France being prepared to pay the price to keep it afloat.
