National Australia Bank is understood to be planning a bid for the 600 branches that Lloyds Banking Group is being forced to sell, it was reported today.

Lynne Peacock, who is chief executive of the Australian group’s UK business, is understood to have made the acquisition a top strategic priority, according to the Sunday Times newspaper.
