An online sports auction website is to create up to 50 jobs next year, it was announced today.

Betbidder.com, a website based on the 'penny auction' concept, currently employs 14 people.

The website was created by Enda Morgan, formerly of ABN AMRO Bank and the Central Bank of Ireland.

Betbidder.com allows users bid for cash prizes payable on the successful outcome of sporting events and for the opportunity to attend major sporting events.

“We are a start-up Irish company with big ambitions to expand across Europe and beyond,” said Morgan.

“Our site is not a gambling website but an online auction website. Users pay to bid for an opportunity to purchase cash prizes and other auction items at significantly reduced prices.”

“A typical example is where a recent winner, Gerard Talbot from Dublin, paid an auction price of €4.44 having used 43 bids to win the auction (with the cost of his bids refunded to his account as he was the winner) for a payout of €110 for West Brom to win or draw against Newcastle. As the sporting outcome was successful Gerard paid €4.44 to receive his cash payout of €110.”

The new jobs will based in Sandyford in Co Dublin.
