Petrol retailers defend price hikes

Petrol retailers are defending rising prices.

The cost started going up even before the Government added 4c per litre in the Budget.

Paul Candon of Topaz said the exchange rate was a contributory factor.

"The large surge in prices was a result of the euro falling from €1.40 to €1.29," he said.
