Mortgage lending in the UK remained broadly flat in September as housing market activity stalled, figures showed today.

Around 50,000 mortgages were advanced to people buying a new home during the month, unchanged from August's figure and 2% lower than in September 2009, the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) said.
