US company Covidien is announcing that it is to invest almost €1m in research and development at NUI Galway.

The firm is a world leader in medical devices and healthcare products.

The money will fund two R&D projects but won't create new jobs.

The firm already employs some 1,500 people in Ireland and has its European headquarters in Dublin.
