UK mortgage lending at six-month low

The number of mortgages approved for house purchase in the UK fell to a six-month low during August as activity in the property market continued to falter, figures showed today.

A total of 47,372 loans were approved for house purchase during the month, down from 48,346 in July and the fourth consecutive monthly decline, according to the Bank of England.
