TalkTalk signs mobile deal

Broadband firm TalkTalk today said it would offer mobile phone services to its 4.2 million customers in the UK after signing a deal with Vodafone.

The company will launch a range of value-for-money services later in the summer, although it currently has no plans to extend the mobile offering beyond its existing customer base.

TalkTalk – the UK’s second biggest broadband firm – bought Tiscali’s UK business last year and made its stock market debut in March after a split from Carphone Warehouse.

The firm added 34,000 net new broadband customers in the seasonally slower quarter to June, down from 42,000 in the three months to March.

Chairman Charles Dunstone said the firm had put in a “very solid” performance.

He added: “We maintained our momentum in the broadband market, as our brand and tariffs continued to appeal to customers seeking straightforward, value-for-money broadband and voice services.”
