Cork Chamber President Ger O’Mahoney today welcomed the recent discussions by stakeholders in the city with a view to kickstarting the Cork Docklands development.

He affirmed the Chamber’s support for this important project which is key to our future.

Mr O’Mahoney said: “The wider development of the Docklands project is now at a critical juncture.

“There is no doubt that we are operating in a challenging environment.

“However, the Docklands project has the potential to create high levels of job growth and lead to many economic advances, nationally, but only if a commitment is secured from Government to proceed,” he said.

“Cork Chamber believes that there is no viable reason why the Government should not be investing in a nationally strategic project such as Cork Docklands, which will improve the overall productive side of the economy at a time when it is most needed.

“We now call on the Government to stop paying lip-service and send a clear message of intent to support a project which has incalculable economic benefits,” said Mr O’Mahoney.
