The Polish government has approved a bid for AIB's stake in Bank Zachodni by a semi-state bank in Poland.

PKO - in which the state has a 41% share - is being encouraged to bid for AIB's 70% holding in Zachodni to reduce the level of foreign ownership of Poland's banking sector.
