Unions welcome assurances on Cadbury jobs

SIPTU and UNITE, the unions which represent workers at the Cadburys plants in Ireland have welcomed assurances from the new owners, Kraft, concerning job security.

The assurances were made at a meeting between Kraft management and the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation, Batt O’Keeffe.

Kraft had already announced plans to scale back Cadbury operations in Britain - sparking fears for jobs here.

As part of the deal negotiated by the unions, €20m in investment has been secured for the Coolock operation
