Independent Broadcasters hold 64.5% of radio listenership
The Independent Broadcasters of Ireland (IBI) has said the latest JNLR figures show that the popularity of independent radio remains high among listeners.
According to the JNLR figures, 64.5% of the listening population (2.473 million people) tune in to independent radio on a daily basis in the key 7am to 7pm slot.
For the first time, 4FM is fully integrated in the current JNLR book. It has a daily listenership in excess of 100,000 listeners.
The latest JNLR figures confirm the huge loss to Irish broadcasting of Gerry Ryan and highlight the enormous challenge RTE faces in retaining his almost 300,000 daily listeners.
“Independent radio welcomes a strong debut from 4FM but some challenges remain for the sector with a drop in listenership by commuters and a small drop in overall radio listenership”, said Willie O’Reilly, Chairman of the Independent Broadcasters of Ireland.
The Independent Broadcasters of Ireland (IBI) is the representative body for Ireland’s independent commercial radio broadcasters.
