News that Greece has finally asked for financial aid sparked a relief rally on the London market today and helped offset disappointing UK output data.

The FTSE 100 Index lifted 42.5 points to 5707.8 – clawing back some of yesterday’s near-60 point loss – following Greece’s move to ask the European Union and International Monetary Fund for support, which ended weeks of uncertainty.
