Businesses 'may force staff to take holidays' due to ash cloud

Employment law firm Peninsula Ireland has said it has received 1,100 calls from employers whose workers are stranded overseas.

It said businesses don't have to give additional paid leave in the unprecedented circumstances, but it is advising them to be flexible.

However, employers have said they may have to force staff who are available to take holidays because the disruption to supplies has led to a shortage of available work.
