Final effort to solve Green Isle dispute

Mediators will make a final push to resolve the long-running dispute at Green Isle Foods this evening.

The six-month strike over the dismissal of three workers has escalated in recent weeks with three members of the Technical Electrical and Engineering Union going on hunger strike.

One of the three, shop steward Jim Wyse, is now into his 15th day on hunger strike.

The company in a statement this afternoon said it was "deeply disappointed by the excessive action of individuals involved in hunger strike".

"The company reiterates that the only way the dispute will be resolved will be through the independent mediation process the company initiated some weeks ago."
