Irish firm tackling global decline in honeybees

Scientists at a company linked to NUI Maynooth have set about trying to tackle one of the biggest threats to global food production.

"Beemune" aims to provide solutions for the unexplained deaths of much of the world's bee population.

Commercially managed honeybees have been in rapid decline over the past decade.

The Irish firm produces food additives designed to reverse the collapse, which it has developed after more than two years of research.
