British company buys Segway

Segway Inc, maker of the Personal Transporter electronic scooter, has been acquired by a British company.

A four-sentence announcement appeared on its website, saying the purchase occurred on December 24.

The statement did not disclose financial details or the acquiring company but said it is backed by British businessman Jimi Heselden, the chairman of Hesco Bastion.

According to the statement, Mr Heselden is also an investor in the independently owned Segway UK distributorship.
