Barroso: Industrial base the key to renewed growth

The President of the European Commission says Europe needs to keep a strong industrial base in order to come out the other side of the current economic crisis.

Jose Manuel Barroso says it is an extremely important area that we need to focus on. Unemployment has soared throughout the 27 EU member states over the past 12 months.

Nearly 23 million people throughout the 27 EU member states were unemployed in November of 2009.

This figure has jumped by nearly five million when compared to November 2008.

President Jose Manuel Barroso says the growth of industry is central to any future European financial plans.
