Survey shows Irish job seekers ‘hopeful’ for 2010
Irish job seekers and workers are “hopeful” for 2010 according to a new survey carried out by the recruitment organisation Saongroup.com, which includes myhorizon.ie, a careers development website.
A total of 59% of respondents told the survey that, despite the turbulence of the 12 months, they were “hopeful” about what the coming year would bring.
The study found that while 2009 had been a hard year for many people, with almost half (47%) describing it as “fearful”, almost a third (30%) admitted that the last 12 months had forced them to re-evaluate their lifestyle and that were happier for it.
Perhaps, not surprisingly, 2009 also made people focus on their careers and their job prospects with over a third of respondents (39%) saying that they are planning to, or are considering, returning to college to upskill.
Valerie Sorohan of myhorizon.ie comments: “Everybody knows that 2009 has been tough going. However what is heartening to see is just how well people have adapted to the new reality.
“Respondents have told us that they are re-evaluating their lifestyles and are actively looking at training so they can upskill.
“At myhorizon.ie we give people the tools they need to help boost their job prospects with a range of services for job seekers including CV reviews, interview training, skills assessments and course recommendations.”
Myhorizon.ie is an Irish website dedicated specifically to career development.
“Whether people are job seeking, changing career direction or looking to increase their job prospects in 2010, then myhorizon.ie can empower them to do just that,” she added.
