Italian restaurant chain Carluccio’s today said recent trading had been better than expected despite “challenging” conditions denting profits.

The firm’s pre-tax profits fell 16% to £4.7m (€5.2m) for the 53 weeks to September 27 as the business weathered weaker trading, higher labour and energy costs and the pound’s slide against the euro.
