Hauliers: Carbon tax plan 'misguided'

Hauliers say the Government's plans for a carbon tax are "misguided" and not enough is being done to stimulate growth of an alternative fuel industry here.

In its pre-Budget submission, the Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) says the tax - aimed at reducing carbon emissions - will fail if hauliers cannot pass on the cost in the services they provide.

IRHA President Vincent Caulfield says whatever charge is levied should be treated in the same way as VAT.
