Fed regulator named

The US Federal Reserve has named Patrick Parkinson as its top banking regulator.

The appointment comes as the US Congress considers overhauling how banks and other big financial companies are regulated to prevent a repeat of the financial crisis that struck last year.

Mr Parkinson, an economist who has been with the Fed since 1980, succeeds Roger Cole, who retired in August after 30 years of service at the central bank.
