The FTSE 100 Index surged to another year-high today as commodities were buoyed by recovery hopes on both sides of the Atlantic.

The FTSE 100 Index in Britain surged to another year-high today as commodities were buoyed by recovery hopes on both sides of the Atlantic.

The top flight closed 1.6% or 82 points ahead at 5124.1 as better than expected US industrial production data underpinned the gains late in the session.
