Chambers Ireland: Employment subsidy scheme insufficient
Chambers Ireland has today welcomed the announcement of the Enterprise Subsidy Scheme but is concerned that it does not go far enough.
"This €250m scheme is an important step in supporting vulnerable businesses at this time," said Chambers Ireland chief executive Ian Talbot.
"However it is limited to qualifying exporting enterprises in manufacturing or internationally traded services, many of whom may already be in receipt of support from the Enterprise Stabilisation Fund or Enterprise Ireland.
"We are particularly concerned that a large number of companies desperately in need of assistance do not qualify.
"Chambers Ireland continues to call on the Government to give serious consideration to the establishment of an Irish equivalent of the UK’s Enterprise Finance Guarantee Scheme. This could be rolled out as part of the overall plan to restore confidence in the economy."
