The European Union was criticised today for continuing to spend tens of billions of euro on farm subsidies instead of shifting more resources to boost economic recovery.

Britain's House of Lords European Union Committee said it was “disappointing” such a large proportion of the EU’s budget continued to be spent on the Common Agricultural Policy while the world struggles to emerge from the financial crisis.
