Majority of Element Six jobs 'may be saved'

There are renewed hopes today that a large number of the 370 redundancies announced at the Element Six plant in Shannon last week could be reversed.

Senior executives at the industrial diamonds plant have secured support from the parent company to develop a plan to sustain long-term operations in Shannon.

Management said the plan would be an alternative to the wind-down to the company's operations announced last week.

The general manager at Shannon, Ken Sullivan, says he is convinced that a sustainable operation can be created.
