RTÉ breaks even in 2008
State broadcaster RTÉ published its annual report today, revealing that it broke even in 2008 with total revenues of €441m, but forecasting a €68m shortfall for this year.
The station said it was taking steps to address the shortfall, including pay cuts and a reduction in third-party supplier costs.
Despite its economic difficulties, audience figures remained strong.
RTÉ Director General Cathal Goan said the annual report reflects the reality which faced the organisation and Ireland in general during 2008, and insisted that the station's focus remains on protecting output and employment.
