McCoy appointed as new IBEC boss

A leading economist was today named the next director general of influential business lobby group IBEC.

Danny McCoy, a policy director with the organisation, will take over in July from Turlough O’Sullivan who announced his retirement earlier this year.

Mr McCoy, who previously worked with the Central Bank and the Economic and Social Research Institute, said the appointment was a great honour, but a daunting task.

“This is a daunting challenge as Ireland is coming through what has been amongst its most turbulent times since the foundation of the state,” Mr McCoy said.

“It is more important than ever that the membership of this great organisation has its voice heard.”

Mr McCoy joined IBEC four years ago and has also lectured at Trinity College, Oxford, University College London and DCU.

IBEC president Tom Noonan said: “Danny McCoy has demonstrated a breadth of vision which is refreshing in its clarity. This is what our time needs – the strength of mind and the energy to envisage possible futures that address old problems in new ways.”
