EU welcomes move to increase broadband competition

The EU Commission has endorsed the proposal by communications regulator ComReg to lower the prices charged by Eircom to its competitors for granting access to its network and to cut Eircom's charges for customers moving from one product to another.

The EU Commission has endorsed the proposal by communications regulator ComReg to lower the prices charged by Eircom to its competitors for granting access to its network and to cut Eircom's charges for customers moving from one product to another.

"The proposed measures represent an important step towards facilitating direct investment in infrastructure and enhancing competition on the Irish broadband market which should lead to lower prices for consumers," said an EU Commission statement.
