Irish shares were declining in value today as the ISEQ index slumped by 47.67 points to 2,840.03 in morning trading.

The financials all lost ground. Allied Irish Banks fell 19c to €1.92. Irish Life and Permanent shed 16c to €3.30, with Bank of Ireland down 12c to €1.80.

In the construction sector, both CRH and Kingspan lost 22c to fall to €4.54 and €17.68 respectively. The energy sector fared little better, with Tullow Oil down 29c to €10.45 and Dragon Oil losing 10c to €4.15.

There was somewhat better news in the food and drink sector, where Kerry Group enjoyed the only gain of significance today, climbing 55c to €15.38. Glanbia fell 10c to €2.30 however.

The biggest fall of the day came for DCC, which declined 70c to €15.60. Paddy Power (down 25c to €17.25) and FBD (down 17c to €7.38) also lost ground.
