Financial stocks made strong gains in the ISEQ today, with the index of Irish shares overall closing up 25.97 at 2,955.57.

AIB surged past the €2 barrier to finish up 25c at 2.24, with Bank of Ireland up 18c to 2.18, and Irish Life & Permanent soaring 39c to 4.35.
