GM's Hummer business is first to be sold

The Hummer, symbol of American motoring excess, is to be sold off by ailing General Motors, the company announced today.

The Detroit-based company did not name the proposed buyer or the price, but said the sale will probably save more than 3,000 US jobs in manufacturing, engineering and at various dealerships.
