Angry scenes expected at Irish Nationwide AGM
Members of Irish Nationwide are meeting in Dublin this afternoon for the firm's annual general meeting.
Angry scenes are expected in light of the rapid deterioration in the building society's financial position following the massive downturn in the Irish property market.
Irish Nationwide, which is covered by the State's bank guarantee, says it will need further government support to survive in light of its significant exposure to property.
Today's AGM is being led by chairman Danny Kitchen following the departure of chief executive Michael Fingleton last month.
The 71-year-old had been in charge of the building society since 1972.
