EMI Music today said earnings more than trebled after slashing costs and launching new releases from the likes of Lily Allen and Coldplay.

The group posted underlying earnings of £163m (€182.8m) for the year to the end of March - its first full year under the ownership of Guy Hands' private equity group Terra Firma.
