Lloyd's of London today said it remained in good shape after the insurance market achieved a profit of £1.9bn (€2bn) for 2008.

The figure was down from £3.85bn (€4.14bn) a year earlier, reflecting lower insurance rates and the impact of significant claims from natural catastrophes such as North Atlantic hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
