SR Technics management and unions are to go before the Labour Relations Commission next week, as efforts to save the aircraft maintenance firm intensify.

The two sides have been meeting today at the company's plant at Dublin Airport to discuss workers' pensions and the redundancy package on offer.

Senior managers also met with Tánaiste Mary Coughlan to discuss the latest developments at the Swiss-owned plant.

So far there have been up to 30 expressions from different parties interested in taking over the facility, which is set to close its doors at the end of the month.

SIPTU's Pat Ward said very little progress was made today, but that the number of those interested is encouraging:

“Certainly it's encouraging, and we had a meeting with the IDA this morning who had said that there had been some serious expressions of interest forwarded to their offices - so yes, there is light at the end of the tunnel we would hope.” Mr Ward said.

“We have been optimistic from day one there would be an investor out there that would look at the continuation of this facility.”
