Fast food giant McDonald’s today opened a state of the art training facility to boost the skills of its workforce during the economic downturn.

Management said they have invested in the future of 3,500 employees by giving them the confidence to deliver a better service to customers.

Tánaiste Mary Coughlan, who officially opened the centre on O’Connell Street, Dublin, said the development was a great example of private enterprise providing the facilities, training and expertise that will enable their employees to thrive.

“There is international evidence that suggests that there are a number of benefits of a highly skilled workforce for organisational productivity and innovation,” added the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

McDonald’s has 75 stores in Ireland, serving 150,000 customers daily.

Newly unemployed professionals, including architects, accountants and bankers, have been among the hundreds applying for positions in the chain’s new stores in Ennis, Maynooth, Portlaoise and Wexford, according to the company.
