Financials give FTSE a boost

Shares in insurer Legal & General jumped by 20% today as financial stocks staged a much-needed rally.

The correction for the beleaguered sector helped the FTSE 100 Index surge 1% or 52.7 points to 3595.1 by mid-morning, despite another poor session on Wall Street last night.
