Fears for 90 jobs in Shannon

Ninety voluntary redundancies could be on the cards at Element Six in Shannon.

Staff and management at the diamond manufacturer are in negotiations to seek the cuts in an effort to off-set a shorter working week due to be implemented next week.

The company said it has the funding for 20 redundancy packages and will go to its corporate division to see if money can be found for a further 70.

If approved it's hoped it may not necessitate the need to put workers on a week-on, week-off schedule in the coming months.
