British government officials were meeting with union leaders and motor industry representatives today to discuss details of a proposed aid package for the ailing sector.

Ministers were told by union leaders that although a £2.3bn (€2.48bn) loan guarantee package was a welcome start, tens of thousands of car workers’ jobs could be lost unless it gives more help to the motor industry.
