Currys owner appoints new chairman

Currys and PC World parent company DSG International today named the former boss of logistics business Exel as its next chairman.

John Allan, who is currently chief financial officer of the German postal business Deutsche Post, will take on the role when incumbent DSG chairman Sir John Collins retires in September.

Mr Allan is due to step down from Deutsche Post in June having orchestrated the £3.7bn (€4bn) sale of Exel to Deutsche Post in 2005.

DSG said Mr Allan will join its board as a non-executive director ahead of his appointment as chairman, to provide a “suitable handover period”.

Mr Allan said: “I am delighted to be joining DSG International at this important time in its development.

“The group has many challenges as well as significant opportunities under the renewal and transformation plan.

“I am looking forward to renewing my involvement in retail and being part of the business as it continues to execute the plan and improve its offering for customers.”
