The ISEQ index of Irish shares closed down 36.43 points to 2,479.56 today with banks among the major fallers.

The ISEQ index of Irish shares closed down 36.43 points to 2,479.56 today with banks among the major fallers.

The biggest loss was suffered by Anglo Irish Bank, which plunged 27c or 28.72% to 67c after pre-tax profits for the year fell by 37%. Irish Life & Permanent shed 19c to 1.44, while Bank of Ireland and Allied Irish Banks dropped 18c to 1.09 and 14c to 2.19 respectively.
