The Bank of England said today that £5bn (€6.3bn) was pumped into its coffers on Friday as some UK banks took advantage of the cash flooded into money markets last week.

The Bank of England said today that £5bn (€6.3bn) was pumped into its coffers on Friday as some UK banks took advantage of the cash flooded into money markets last week.

The money was put in the Bank's standing deposit facility - which pays a "penalty" rate of 4% compared with its 5% base rate.
